Anitha Radhakrishnan arrested in Thoothukudi


THOOTHUKUDI: Tiruchendur Assembly constituency DMK MLA and former minister Anitha Radhakrishnan was arrested here on Wednesday for instigating a murder attempt on the life of Arumuganeri DMK town secretary Suresh a few months ago. ‘Kaamu’ Suresh, DMK town secretary of Arumuganeri, was stabbed by two persons while he was about to leave after participating in Stalin’s birthday function at Arumuganeri on March 1, 2011. In this incident, a case was registered against Anitha and a few of his supporters.
Subsequently, Sasikumar surrendered in court and another person, Manikandan was arrested by the police. In this backdrop, Suresh’s supporters murdered Sasikumar on July 10 at Kurumbur. Following this, the police had, a few days ago, picked up 6 persons, including Suresh, the main accused in the case.
In this situation, a police team, including ADSP and DSPs of Tiruchendur and Srivaikundam, arrested Anitha Radhakrishnan around 4 pm when he was at his Kanthan Colony residence in Thoothukudi. He was then taken to SIPCOT police station where police officials interrogated him.
Later, the police moved Anitha to Srivaikundam police station for further investigation. The police arrested the DMK MLA for instigating the murder attempt made on Suresh.
